Elizabeth Bernheisel is a Washington DC native now living in Delray Beach FL. Expressive brushstrokes and vibrant colors are a dominating feature of her work.
Color is what grabs her when she enters her studio and it is the first thing she considers when starting a new painting. She uses a variety of media in her work and is always trying new ones. Before painting, she often starts with gestural drawing using graphite and colorful pastels or brushing washes of color across the canvas with acrylic inks. She loves how this first layer can blend with the paint and create variations of color and translucent layers.
